Two Healthy eating projects from Whitehawk have been praised at a special event yesterday.

Whitehawk Primary School’s basketball and cooking sessions and a lunch club at the Robert Lodge flats in Whitehawk, were among 23 projects in East Brighton praised at Whitehawk’s Crew Club.

They were all funded through the East Brighton Healthy Living Centre’s Healthy Neighbourhood Fund.

Councillor Geoffrey Theobald said: “This is really what I call value for money. It’s remarkable how far relatively small sums of money can go when you harness the energies of groups who want to help themselves and others.”

Also speaking at yesterday’s event were speakers from Whitehawk Primary School and the East Brighton Substance Misuse Project. Afterwards, everyone was served a locally produced organic lunch.

The healthy living centre is a joint enterprise between the council and the NHS, which delivers health promotion and offers one-to-one support for residents.

Its manager Helen Graham said: “The day went really well. We had 50 people there with about 15 community groups. Lots of the groups spoke about their work and many commented that it was great to catch up with other groups and to hear about other funding opportunities.”

The Healthy Living Centre is based in the Moulsecoomb children’s centre in Hodshrove Lane.

For more information about the centre and the projects it supports call Helen Graham on 01273 294531.
